World War 1 About Me
My name is Amherst Ackland. I was in high school when it all began. I was 18 a senior. I had a girl on my arm. Her name Lucy Smih
and she was the pretest 17 year old I have ever seen. We were planning on marring after school. But a letter changed that plan. My mother and father were both 39 years of age. I also have a younger brother named Adam. He is 16 years which is only 2 years younger than me. To him I was the greatest person around. who eould ever think i would be a soldier in World War 1. One day everyone was waiting for my math teacher to arrive for class. When our teacher finally walked in
the door we all noticed that she had a suprised rection on her face. She had came in with he most alarming news ever. We sat in silence for about 10 minutes before she actually spoke up." The archduke of Austria- Hungary and his wife had just been assassinated." she saidin a calm, but supprising voice. We all were shocked, and we aall knew something good would never come of this. She told us that he was assassinated by a terrorist group called te Black Hand and she informed us that all the members of the Black Hand had been caught. When I became a soldier, I had to learn so much. One thing we had
to learn was the British Battle Plan. We used the plan at one of our most important battles we have ever had. First we had to get to France, since they were are allies in the war. When we got to France we came up with a great military strategy to win the war.Our strategy was that we were going to make trenches in the ground. When our enemy was not expecting anything we were going to make a suprise attack. Our strategy worked well. We killed over 300 hundered Germans that night. Propaganda Poster
My mother found this poster in our streets of Britain.
She sent it to me in a letter. I think I know what it means. This man is wearing a shirt with our flag on it, he is pointing to the person reading the poster, and there are soldiers in the background. It says " Who's absent? Is it you?" Its trying to get you to join the army by trying to make you feel guilty for not fighting for your country. It uses the techniques of catchy slogan, emotional symbols, and patriotic appeals. It helps in the recruiting more soldiers like us. Russia Exit's and U.S.A Enters
When Russia left it did not help us at all. Russia was one of our allies who helped us attack Germany. But back in our country we were having money problems ourselves. After 3 years Russia could not take being in a World War, they were having there own war back in there own country. With Russia out the war Germany is able to attack on us since there western front is stronger. So it is not to good for us that Russia left the war.
When the U.S.A declared war Germany we were all supprised. Germany sunk a
ship with women and children on it from the U.S.A thinking that it was supplied with weapons that could destroy there country. The U.S.A also did not appreciate Germanys foreign minister also known as Arthur Zimmermann sending a message to Mexico stating that if Mexico helped them that they would try and win back territory from the U.S.A. Since the U.S.A has arrived in the war and Russia has exited the war I beleive we have no chance of winning the war. Since our country is going bankrupt, a stronger army is coming in, and our allies left which makes it sound like we have no chance. Treaty of Versailles
Finally the war was to an end. No more fighting and we can just all go home.
The Treaty of Versailles was issued just toward Germans who were the only ones who signed it but it was writin by the allies of the other group. It made the Germans have full blame for causing the war, it had the Germans pey huge reparations and not only reparations to the land but to the wives and children who's families were killed during the war, and it made the Germans limit there size of military. Germany would never be in power again.
Im glad to go home and see my future wife and my family again. Four years of fighting and im done.
